The main fabric featured in Mustafiz Hakim’s first collection is Jamdani. Jamdani, originally known as Daccai (Dhakai)—named after the city of Dhaka—usesa unique supplementary weft technique of weaving. This vivid, sheer fabric is traditionally woven on handlooms by skilled craftsmen near Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. In 2013, the traditional art of Jamdani weaving was declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Similarly, the Benarasi sari, though originating in Varanasi, India, is also one of the most renowned traditional textiles in Bangladesh. It is woven on handlooms with fine silk threads, adorned with intricate, opulent patterns.
