Jamdani → The main fabric used in Mustafiz Hakim’s first collection is Jamdani. Jamdani, originally known as Daccai (Dhakai)- named after the city of Dhaka, uses a sporadic weft technique of weaving. This vivid pattern, sheer fabric is traditionally woven on handloom by craftsmen near Dhaka- the capital city of Bangladesh. In 2013, the traditional art of weaving jamdani was declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Benarasi silk katan → The second fabric used is known as benarasi silk katan. Although founded in Vanarasi, India, Benrasi sari is the oldest and reputed traditional textile in Bangladesh. The fabric is woven in a handloom using silk threads and gorgeous patterns are created using golden or silver ‘zari’ thread.
